Pre-reading Questions

1. What do you think the title means?  What is it referring to?  How might that be important to the story?

2. This book is written in free verse poetry.  What is that?  What kinds of things will be in free verse poetry? (rhyming?)

3. Who wrote the book?  Any other famous youth novels that she has written?

4. Has this book won any awards?  If so, what awards?

5. This books takes place in Oklahoma during the 1930's.  What was going on in America during that time?  What kind of conflicts may be in this book?

6. What are some weather-related problems farmers may have to deal with?  How would they affect the farmer's income?

  1. 1. I think the name means a little boy/girl from a small city is a inventor but gets asked to go big and work for a big company in California.

  3. 6.Farmers probably would have to deal with storms and wind ruining their crops causing them to die, and they would loose income because the crops died from storms.
