Spring 1935

**Pick your favorite poem and be ready to read aloud in group!  Please try not to repeat a question!

Q1 - What physical problem has shown up on Daddy?  Why is Billie Jo worried?  What do you think it is?

Q2 - What happens at the school and to some boxcars that frightens Billie Jo?  Why do you think that scared her?

Q3 - Who invited Billie Jo to live with her?  Would you go if you were her?  Do you think she will go?
Why do you think Dad says, "wait and see"?

Q4 - Blankets of Black describes another dust storm.  What words and phrases helped you visualize what it was like?  Find a video of a dust storm from the internet and put the link on your comment so others can see what it would have been like.

Q5 - What is "Hope" about?  What does she compare the rain to?  Does this hope last throughout the chapter?  Why or why not?

Q6 - What happened in "Old Bones"?  Is that a true or made up story? (Use the internet to find out!)

  1. #6- In Old Bones, it talks about how dinosaurs used to roam Cimarron county. It talks about the skeleton of dinosaurs and how they better leave before hey turn into just old bones. From what I found on the internet, it sounds like it is true.

  2. #5- She compares rain and dust. The rain falls nice a gently, and the dust blows hard and gives no mercy. The chapter kind of of gave hope because after 3 days of gentle rain the rain comes down very hard with thunder and lightning. But the good part about it is that since it rained lightly for 3 days, the ground was soft so when it rained hard the water just went into the ground. The water also filled up there pond.-Claire Geiman

  4. #3 Aunt Ellis invited Billy Jo to live with her in Lubbock.I would go with aunt Ellis to Lubbock because I would like to escape the dust and everything it brought.I don't think billy Jo will move in with her aunt because her place is with her father not her aunt.I think "Let's wait and see"means the dust could get better or worse.

  5. #2 I think that when the school and boxcars burnt it frightened Billie Jo because fire killed her mother and brother and burnt her hands. Fire changed her life

Their is a "raised spot" on his face. I think that Billie Jo is worried because they won't go away and keep on appearing, and daddy won't do anything about it. I think that the things that keep on appearing on daddy's face are possibly skin cancer, bug bites, or a rash.

  7. number 5:Hope is about snow flakes and rain. She compares rain and dust. It kinda last threw the whole chapter because she talks about it a lot and compares stuff with it.
